Are you an emerging playwright who dreams of seeing your work come to life on the stage? This is your chance!

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 25 AUGUST 2023

SUBMIT YOUR STORY IDEAS AND WRITING SAMPLES FORA CHANCE TO BE A FINALISTS!

Eligibility: Open to debut playwrights who have not had their work professionally produced or staged.

The selected finalists will not only receive invaluable development opportunities. including workshops, masterclasses, and mentorship but also gain access to an accredited scriptwriting course to further enhance their skills!

SELECTION CRITERIA:

1. Emerging Playwrights: This programme is exclusively for debut playwrights who have not yet had their work professionally produced or staged. If you're a newcomer with a passion for storytelling, we want to hear from you!

2. Originality and Creativity, We're seeking fresh. unique, and imaginative story ideas that have the potential to captivate audiences. Your work should showcase originality and creativity.

3. Relevance to Nation Building and Social Cohesion: Plays that contribute positively to promoting a united. non-racial. non-sexist. democratic. and prosperous South African society will be given preference.,However, we celebrate all voices, and themes that shed light on issues affecting the average South African will also be embrace

4. Writing Quality: Strong writing skills are essential. Your writing samples should demonstrate a command of language, engaging dialogue, and a compelling narrative.

5. Potential for Production: While the focus is on emerging playwrights, we also seek plays with the potential to be successfully produced on stage. Your work should be adaptable to theatrical performance.

6. Diversity and Representation: We encourage submissions from playwrights of diverse backgrounds, reflecting the rich tapestry of South Africa's cultures and identities.

2 ATTENTION ASPIRING THEATRE ADJUDICATORS I

ARE YOU AN EXPERT IN THE ART OF THEATRE AND SCRIPT ANALYSIS? We invite YOU to become esteemed panel members and adjudicate script samples for our accredited Debut Playwrights Programme!

The Debut Playwrights Programme is NOW accepting applications from seasoned professionals like you, to help us discover the next generation of brilliant playwrights!

SELECTION CRITERIA:

1. Theatre Proficiency: Extensive knowledge and experience in the theatre industry are essential. We seek adjudicators who possess a deep understanding of theatrical elements, script structure, and storytelling techniques.

2. Accredited Course: As this programme offers an accredited scriptwriting course, we expect our adjudicators to have a background in script analysis and to be well-versed in evaluating plays for educational purposes.

3. Writing Expertise: Strong writing skills are paramount. Your assessments should be comprehensive, providing detailed critiques that highlight both strengths and areas for improvement in the scripts.

4. Cultural and Social Awareness: Understanding the nuances of South African culture and social context will aid in evaluating plays that contribute to nation-building and social cohesion.

5. Objective and Impartial: We place great value on impartiality. Your adjudications should be unbiased, fostering an environment of fairness and inclusivity.

6. Emerging Talent Recognition: While technical expertise is crucial, we are also seeking adjudicators with an eye for recognizing potential and originality in emerging playwrights.
