Job title: Counsellor X 4 (12 Months Fixed Term Contract)

Main purpose of the job:
To counsel, screen, recruit TB patients and educating them about research and to capture study data into the electronic database.
To provide pre and post counselling specific to HIV infection.
Location: PHRU – Louis Trichardt, Tshilwavhusiku CHC and Compensatie, Polokwane (Positions will be placed in surrounding area of Vhembe and Polokwane)

Key performance areas
Recruitment of participants for studies
Maintaining a good working relationship with local clinic staff
To do study related duties as specified by the protocol.
Complete the case report forms.
Communicate routinely with the study coordinator.
Do proper filing of results and any other study related documents in the relevant assigned place.
Capture study data into REDCap or any other system
Provide written reports to the study coordinator.
Perform ad hoc tasks as and when required.
Perform fieldwork activities as required.
Required minimum education and training
Matric
Fluent in both Xitsonga, Tshivenda, and Sepedi
Computer literacy
Basic Counsellor Certificate
Good Clinical Practice certificate
Experienced driver with a valid driver’s license and code 8 will be advantageous.
Required minimum work experience
At least 2 - 3 years’ counselling experience in a clinical research environment
The ability to work in a complex and demanding environment.
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
Must possess strong organizational skills.
PDP would be advantageous.
Ability to multi-task and to work in a complex and demanding environment.
Must be detail orientated.
Must be able to work as a member of a team.
It is expected that s/he will apply consistent adherence to research and GCP practices.
Knowledge of HIV
Understanding of adherence to medication.
Professionalism and building of trust.
Good communication skills and knowledge of atleast 3 local languages.
Diversity management – know and respect culture.
Friendly, helpful, empathetic and caring.
Conflict management.
Stress Management - ability to manage one’s own stress.
Ability to prognoses a serious situation and escalate as required.
Ability to overcome communication challenges – language, deaf participants.
Cope with counselling in a busy environment with disturbances.
Ability communicate fluently and read Sepedi, English, Xitsonga, and Tshivenda
