Astral, a leading South African integrated poultry producer, has an Electrical Foreman opportunity in County Fair, Processing Plant in Fisantekraal.

The purpose of the Electrical Foreman, is to ensure to uphold and maintain the safety and health standards required by County Fair, and to comply with the OHS act.


The ideal candidate would be responsible for:

  • Manage all routine maintenance on processing equipment

  • Manage all unscheduled processing interruptions resulting from breakdowns

  • Installation and maintenance on processing equipment

  • Continuous interaction and communication with management and subordinates

  • Manage, implement and adhere to the 20 Keys system, HACCP, Risk Control, OHS, EFSIS and all other systems must be adhered to at all times

  • Maintain and comply with the South African National Standard SANS1042 Wiring Code

  • Be present at start-up and all start-up procedures must be followed at all times

  • Must ensure that all shut down procedures are adhered to after the end of the last shift of the week or public holiday

  • Liaison with other Foremen regarding outstanding maintenance, and projects, timekeeping, safety & security matters, and all other matters related to the maintenance team

  • Report and audit machine electrical and mechanical defects

  • Control and audit maintenance documentation

  • Attend to any disciplinary requirements and follow the disciplinary code

  • Assist with training and development of staff

  • Continuous interaction and communication with management and subordinates

  • Maintain housekeeping standards


The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Electrical Trade Certificate (Section 13 and served apprenticeship

  • Minimum N4 qualification electrical theory

  • HT Switiching certificate will be an added advantage

  • Wireman’s license, PLC programming and fault-finding experience will be a distinct advantage

  • A supervisory / management qualification will be an added advantage

  • Previous experience in the electrical maintenance/repair of Poultry processing and rendering plant equipment will be  a distinct advantage

  • Proven leadership experience

  • Willing to do shift work and overtime, including weekends as may be required

  • Fluent in English and an additional official language

  • Ability to work in a highly pressurized environment and deadline driven

  • Must have own reliable transport

  • Computer literate with MS Office
