Job Description

Indigo Brands, based in Cape Town, is a subsidiary of AVI Limited (AVI). Leaders in personal care and beauty products including female and male perfumed body sprays, roll-on deodorants, body care, face care, colour cosmetics and liquid fragrances. Well-known brands include Yardley- Gorgeous, Lace, English Blazer and Lenthéric -Hoity Toity, Solo and Masculin. Indigo’s brand portfolio is strengthened via the Coty licensing agreement that includes world-renowned brands such as Rimmel, Exclamation, Adidas, Guess and Sally Hansen.


An exciting opportunity exists for a FORMULATION INTERN at Indigo Brands, Cape Town. As the successful incumbent you will be responsible in assisting the Research and Development (R&D) team in formulating and testing formulations, supporting new product development, and ensuring that formulations meet quality, regulatory, and performance standards.

JOB SPECIFICATION:

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

Maintenance of related systems and good laboratory practices:

Maintaining and calibrating equipment

Adhering to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Lab Practices (GLP) standards

Record keeping of all raw material documentation

Stock control of raw materials and componentry required for Lab use

Support New Product Development (NPD) activities:

Assist in the manufacture formulations as per R&D requirements

Prepares samples for internal and external testing

Research potential new raw materials to meet product needs

Support Regulatory and Compliance efforts

Keep up to date with latest cosmetic trends

Conduct Stability Testing:

Conduct studies on product safety and stability testing.

Evaluate product stability by use of the appropriate equipment and relevant Standard Operating Procedures

(SOP’s).

Report on any abnormalities picked up during testing.

Assist in Quality Control (QC) Testing

Data Collection and Documentation:

Collate data from prototyping, studies and tests performed within the Lab

Ensure good record keeping of all processes

Compiling of mass /bulk /base specifications

Develop, update and maintain manufacturing instructions for all products

Administration and reporting:

Participate and represent the formulation Laboratory

Maintain and update the product safety records


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE:

GMP & GLP experience would be advantageous

FMCG exposure would be advantageous

Knowledge of the Cosmetic Industry would be beneficial


QUALIFICATIONS:

Grade 12 / Matric

Chemistry Degree or similar

Coschem Diploma or equivalent advantageous


TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES & KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of laboratory testing

Ability to use industry accepted continual improvement tools and instruments

Understanding of technology platforms impacting quality processes

Basic understanding of organizational RACI

Basic understanding of the ISO 9001 / 22716, 1841 standards underpinning processes

Basic principles of quality and cosmetics safety
