Join GreenCape in shaping the green economy and sustainability in South Africa and beyond. We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Graduate Trainee to support our project and delivery teams in the green economy, specifically in the sustainable agriculture sector. The ideal candidate will have a postgraduate degree (master’s preferred) and possess a strong foundation in research, stakeholder engagement, and report writing. This role involves conducting research and analysis, engaging with relevant stakeholders, assisting with events, and preparing reports for publication. The candidate must have a passion for the South African agricultural sector.

The Sustainable Agriculture Programme:

The sustainable agriculture programme’s goal is to increase job creation and investment into the green technology and services that support the agricultural sector. We achieve this through a number of different activities: we perform demand creation activities (such as supporting farmers to adopt sustainable technologies and practices) and we provide support to the sustainable agriculture sector (such as collecting and disseminating market intelligence and supporting innovation and entrepreneurship).


Qualification/Education

• A postgraduate degree in a relevant field (Master’s preferred), such as engineering (including chemical), science, resource/agricultural economics, finance, environmental studies, or other relevant degree. Candidates that are nearing completion of their relevant postgraduate degree are also welcome to apply.


Knowledge and Experience

• No prior professional experience is required, as this is a graduate trainee position designed for individuals at the postgraduate level.

• Relevant experience, such as academic research, report writing, stakeholder engagement, or involvement in project support, is highly advantageous.

• Exposure to event coordination, managing databases, or assisting with market research/data collection is a plus.

• Experience with report writing, document preparation for funders, and program administration is highly valued but not essential.


Competencies and Skills

• Strong research, analytical, and report writing skills, with the ability to assist in preparing high-quality reports, publications, and documents for funders.

• Ability to engage with stakeholders and support event coordination effectively.

• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage tasks across multiple projects and meet deadlines.

• Critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to prioritize tasks are essential for success in this role.

• Proactive, independent, and curious, with a willingness to learn and contribute to the team’s goals.

• A solid understanding or interest in sustainable agriculture practices and current trends in the sector would be an advantage, though not required.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to support team collaboration and stakeholder engagement.

Contract length and remuneration We offer a competitive remuneration package, along with opportunities for continuous professional growth, exposure to international best practices, and a collaborative work environment.

This is a full-time contract position, until 31 March 2026. There will be a three-month probation period for this position.

Remuneration will be market-related, with the recognition that GreenCape is a not-for-profit organisation. A medical aid contribution is offered as an employee benefit and included in the package offered.
