Call for Internships
The Groen Sebenza (GS) Phase II Programme is a bridging into work programme for the next ten months. GS Phase II aims to recruit 1050 unemployed graduates (Diploma – Doctoral level) and place them nationally in different organisations (government and non-governmental) where they will be incubated (trained and mentored) to further develop their competence and confidence in the management of environment/biodiversity.
The programme goals:
Enable workplace-based learning for graduates aimed at building and strengthening their capacity at various levels.
Creation of job opportunities and possible permanent placement beyond phase II.
Transformation and organisational strengthening - strengthen different organizational development aspects including transformation in its totality, mentoring, proactive skills, and planning to better respond to organisational mandates and other national priorities.
Research informed - through research, develop a ‘live’ skills intelligence system that will enable the sector to proactively plan for skills development and track and trace the utilisation of the developed skills.
The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is pleased to announce a call for applications for incubation in any of the following fields:
1. Directorate/Division/ Programme: Biodiversity Research, Assessment and Monitoring, Directorate on Biodiversity Evidence
1.1 Field: Early Detection and Rapid response Research
a) Location: East London (Vincent offices)
Qualification: BSc Honours in Natural sciences/ Botany/ Ecological sciences/ Nature Conservation
b) Location: Lowveld National Botanical Garden
Qualification: ND or B-Tech in Nature Conservation/ BSc or related in Environmental Management / Biodiversity related field.
c) Location: Pretoria National Botanical Garden
Qualification: MSc in Natural sciences/ Botany/ Ecological sciences
d) Location: Thohoyandou National Botanical Garden
Qualification: MSc in Zoology/ Ecology
2. Directorate/Division/ Programme: Biodiversity Education & Public Engagement
2.1 Field: Environmental Education
a) Location: Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden
Qualification: National Diploma in the Environmental / Conservation field
b) Location: Pretoria National Botanical Garden
Qualification: National Diploma in the Environmental / Conservation field
3. Directorate/Division/ Programme: National Infrastructure Programme
3.1 Field: Built Environment
a) Location: KZN Herbarium; Kwelera National Botanical Garden and Pretoria National Botanical Garden
Qualification: National Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Building Science
4. Directorate/Division/ Programme: National Botanical Garden
4.1 Field: National Botanical Garden
a) Location: Kwelera National Botanical Garden
Qualification: Diploma Nature Conservation
5. Directorate/Division/ Programme: Foundational Biodiversity Science

Qualification: BSc in Biological Sciences
b) Location: Walter Sisulu University

6. Directorate/Division/ Programme: National Zoological Garden
6.1 Field: Ecotourism
a) Location: Pretoria National Zoological Garden
Qualification: Diploma/Advanced Diploma (Degree) in Ecotourism/ Tourism/ Tourism Management
6.2 Field: Animal Hospital
a) Location: Pretoria National Zoological Garden
Qualification: National Diploma in Veterinary Technology/ BHSc in Veterinary Technology
6.3 Field: Environmental Education
a) Location: Pretoria National Zoological Garden
Qualification: BSc Environmental Management/ Life Sciences/ Zoology/ Biology
b) Location: Mokopane Biodiversity Conservation Centre
Qualification: BSc Botany and or Zoology/ BEd (Life Sciences), or BSc with a Higher Diploma in Education
7. Directorate/Division/ Programme: Human Resource
7.1 Field: Capacity Development Support
a) Location: Pretoria National Botanical Garden
Qualification: National Diploma/Bachelor’s or Honours or PGD in Human Resources Development / Management/ Training and Development
National Diploma / B-Tech / Degree / Postgraduate Diploma in Labour Relations/ LLB Degree
b) Location: Kirstenbosch NBG
Qualification: Honours or PGD in Human Resources Development / Management/Training and Development
8. Directorate/Division/ Programme: Strategic Coordination and Oversight
8.1 Field: Performance Monitoring and Evaluation
a) Location: Pretoria National Botanical Garden
Qualification: National Diploma / Degree/ Honours in Public Administration/ Business Administration/ Management studies
9. Directorate/Division/ Programme: Groen Sebenza Project Management Unit
9.1 Field: Project Coordination
a) Location: Pretoria National Botanical Garden and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden
Qualification: National Diploma or Degree in Environmental Management/Sciences/ Project Management Modules/certificates in Project Management will be an added advantage
National Diploma / Bachelor’s in Public Administration/ Business Administration/ Management studies
Requirements:
Must be a SA citizen.
Young unemployed and *underemployed professionals between the ages of 18 and 35
Innovative, dynamic, and creative
A commitment to career development in the environmental/biodiversity sector
Must hold qualifications mentioned in table above.

Internship monthly stipend values (no other benefits apply as these are internship positions)
