2 vacancies exist within Scientific Services for a Research Assistants stationed in Skukuza in the Kruger National Park.
1 Research Assistant for a 3-year Fixed term contract
1 Research Assistant for a 1-year 8 months Fixed term contract
Requirements
Grade 12 certificate – Any advanced certificate in the related field will be an added advantage.
Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
Valid firearm proficiency in manual-operated rifle
Valid SAPS firearm competency certificate
Understanding and experience in veld firefighting
Valid First Aid Certificate Level 1
At least 3 years of game guarding/research assistant/field ranger experience in a big five reserve game area
General day-to-day maintenance experience of infrastructure and equipment
Must be able to work independently
Valid and functional Drivers licence
Basic computer skills will be an added advantage
Responsibilities
Guarding and guiding researchers during field research from potentially dangerous animals.
Partake in experimental burns
Assist with the maintenance of research infrastructures, research sites and equipment.
Downloading and collecting routine monitoring data where needed
Data capturing.
Assist with the implementation of the fire management program
Assist with keeping the office and research camp gardens neat and tidy
