Crop Protection
Performs routine laboratory activities related to microbiology (growth media and buffer preparations, isolation, purification, preservation, inoculation, and nucleic acid-based techniques).
Manages plants in greenhouse and follows sanitation procedures.
Performs sample collection and processing, as well as data collection and processing.
Assists in coordinating of work activities and supervises allocated resources.
Adheres to work plans and timeously provide verbal and written feedback on work activities and challenges encountered to supervisor.
Provides general research support.
Plant Breeding
Assists technicians and researchers with the implementation of plant breeding related field and greenhouse trials, trial monitoring and data collection.
Assists with seed harvesting, cleaning, sorting and storage.
Assists in coordinating of work activities and supervises allocated resources.
Adheres to work plans and timeously provide verbal and written feedback on work activities and challenges encountered to supervisor.
Provides general research support.

Crop Protection:
Grade 12 plus 3 years relevant experience in Crop Protection (Bacteriology, Mycology and/or Virology) or Grade 10 plus 5 years relevant experience.
Relevant experience in laboratory related work on bacteria and fungi (isolations, purification, preservation, etc.) and/or plant viruses (preparations of plant material for extractions, basic molecular work, etc.).
Relevant experience in soil sterilization, cultivation and general maintenance of crops and trials in greenhouses.
Relevant experience in pathogen inoculations activities and disease scoring.
Experience in field trial management will be an added advantage.
Practical experience in microscopy and molecular work will be an added advantage.
Proficiency in English.
Valid driver’s license will be an added advantage.

Plant Breeding
Grade 12 with 3 years relevant experience in Plant Breeding or Agronomy, or Grade 10 plus 5 years’ relevant experience.
Relevant experience in cultivation and maintenance of vegetable crops, including land preparations, planting, weeding, harvesting, fertilizer applications and irrigation set-up.
Relevant experience in greenhouse sanitation practices, growth media preparations and seedling/plantlet production.
Effective utilization of tools implements and research materials.
Perform soil and water sample collection, and data collection under supervision.
Competence in driving a tractor will be an added advantage.
Competence in herbicide and pesticide applications will be an added advantage.
Proficiency in English.
Valid driver’s license will be an added advantage
