Job Title: Senior Accountant
Location: Polokwane
Job Overview:
Senior Accountant will oversee financial reporting, account reconciliations, and month-end closing activities, contributing to the financial health and strategic decision-making of the company. This position requires a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with a strong grasp of South African financial regulations, accounting standards (IFRS), and operational finance processes.
Responsibilities
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and South African tax legislation.
• Manage and perform regular reconciliations of all general ledger accounts, ensuring data accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies.
• Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all financial reports.
• Ensure compliance with South African tax regulations, including VAT, PAYE, and income tax returns. Prepare and submit tax filings on behalf of the company.
• Monitor and report on cash flow, providing forecasts and assisting in cash management to optimise liquidity.
• Coordinate with external auditors and assist in the preparation of annual audits and internal control assessments.
• Assist in the development and management of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
• Review and maintain internal controls and accounting systems, implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Support and mentor junior accounting staff, ensuring continuous development and adherence to accounting standards.
Qualifications s Requirements:
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (a CA(SA), CIMA, or other professional accounting qualification is highly advantageous).
Experience: At least [2-3] years of progressive accounting experience, with [1-2] years in a senior or supervisory role.
Technical Skills: Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Pastel, SAP, Sage, or QuickBooks) and advanced MS Excel skills
Knowledge of South African Legislation: Strong understanding of South African tax laws (e.g., VAT, PAYE, Income Tax), IFRS, and the Companies Act.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities, with an aptitude for interpreting complex financial data and trends.
Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and completeness.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
